The Catina Rose Memorial Scholarship
On September 3, 1979, Catina Rose Salarno was stalked and tragically murdered in an execution-style killing on her first day at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
Her brutal and senseless death sent shockwaves throughout California, highlighting the systemic injustices faced by crime victims within the criminal justice system.
In response, her parents, Mike and Harriet Salarno, founded Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation
to advocate for crime victims, promote public safety, and provide essential support to those affected by
violent crime. Today, Harriet, alongside her daughter Nina, continues this vital mission in honor of
Catina’s legacy.
To commemorate Catina’s deep love for education and her unwavering passion for learning, the Catina
Rose Memorial Scholarship was established. Catina had been eagerly anticipating the start of her
college journey, pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a dentist. Though her life was tragically cut
short, her memory and dedication to education continue to inspire others. This scholarship is awarded
annually to a crime victim who is transforming their pain into purpose by pursuing an education and
helping others.
Our hearts break knowing you have been a victim of a crime. We encourage you to review the criteria
and apply, and please remember—we are here to support you.
Sincerely,
Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation Scholarship Committee
