CVU SUPPORTS - SB 24

Crime Victims United is pleased to lend strong support to SB 24. This important bill helps to close a loophole in the domestic violence restraining orders. This provision which provides the protection of a child's school, medical, and dental information from the abusive parent will save lives.

CVU SUPPORTS - AB 282

Crime Victims United is pleased and honored to co-sponsor Bill 282. On behalf of crime victims everywhere we thank you for authoring this much needed legislation to extend protection to victims of crime. In 2020 Assembly Bill 3234 (Ting) provided for diversion for all misdemeanors with exceptions for crimes that require a person to register as a sex offender, domestic violence and stalking. Although Crime Victims Untied is supportive of meaningful, and well thought out criminal justice AB 3234 was not as it left many victims of crime vulnerable to repeat violence and harm.

CVU OPPOSES - SB 82

We at Crime Victims United, strongly oppose SB 82. This bill would define the crime of petty theft in the first degree as "taking the property from the person of another or from a commercial establishment by means of force or fear." Essentially, SB 82 would reduce the crime of Robbery, PC 211, to a misdemeanor petty theft. We firmly believe that reducing robberies to misdemeanor level crimes is a grave injustice to victims of crime and fails to recognize the grave differences between a simple taking and a violent taking from the person of property.

CVU OPPOSES - SB 262

We oppose SB 262 because it will not enhance the goal of ensuring that individuals appear in court, thus not giving the victims of crime the best guarantee that justice will be served. SB 262 will cause a majority of people to be released with "Zero Bail" no matter their criminal history or their failure to appear record.

CVU OPPOSES - SB 329

We oppose SB 329 because it will not enhance the goal of ensuring that individuals appear in court, thus not giving the victims of crime the best guarantee that justice will be served. SB 329 will cause a majority of people to be released with "Zero Bail" no matter their criminal history or their failure to appear record.
