Michael Salarno Golf Tournament to take place in October

Mon, 08/18/2014 - 3:40pm

The 25th Annual Michael Salarno Memorial Classic Cup will be taking place on Friday, Oct. 3 at Catta Verdera Country Club in Lincoln Calif.

Each Fall, the Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation hosts a golf tournament in Northern California to raise funds for its programs for victims of violent crimes. This event is a wonderful day of food, beverages and fun, all for a great cause.

It is a terrible toll that is taken on children when violent crime strikes them or their families. Statistics have shown that many will end up in a life of crime themselves. For some, their opportunities are suddenly and violently removed from their lives, especially if the family bread-winner is unexpectedly struck down. While others, the victims themselves of unspeakable crimes, struggle to put their lives back together and regain a sense of dignity. Some children have endured witnessing the death of a parent, or have been sexually abused by family members or strangers.

An assault that left a young man blind. A young Iraq war veteran who, after returning home to find his sister murdered, took on the challenge of adopting his young, orphaned nephew. Each year we are moved by these stories of strength and courage. One year, upon presentation of the scholarship, one young woman, with tears in her eyes said, “I never knew so many people cared.”

It is these young adults which have beaten the odds that we seek to encourage and reward.

Thanks to donations and funds raised by the golf tournament, Crime Victims United has been awarding scholarships to young victims of crime since 2007.

Recent scholarship recipients have gone on to graduate from nursing school, the U.C. Davis Biology program and Simpson Bible College. These are only a few of the success stories!

Your support of the Crime Victims United Charitable Foundation’s Classic Cup Golf Tournament shows these young victims you do care. We operate on a donations only basis, with one hundred percent of the proceeds going to this valuable program. Without the support of caring individuals such as you, we would not be able to help these young adults.
